Colomycin Injection belongs to the group of antibiotics called the polymyxins. It works by disrupting the structure of part of the bacterial cell membrane, causing the vital contents of the bacteria to leak out. This ultimately leads to the death of the bacteria.

Colomycin Injection is not absorbed from the gut into the blood. It is most commonly used to sterilise the bowel.
